Michael Scott

Michael Scott is Headteacher of Newport Girls’ High School in Shropshire. In 2020, NGHS successfully bid to become the DFE’s Flexible Working Ambassador School for the West Midlands RSC region. Over the past couple of years, Newport Girls’ has presented to Local Authority Headteacher teams, held workshops and provided bespoke support to around fifteen schools and Trusts to improve their Flexible Working practice from policy development to HR compliance to practicalities such as timetabling.

It is timetabling which is Michael’s passion and he has worked with over 50 schools over the past 15 years to write and/or improve their timetables. With 42% part time staff at Newport and just two split classes, Michael hopes to demonstrate how flexible working can not only improve staff well-being, work-life balance and morale, but also not adversely affect student progress and outcomes. And yes, Michael does (on occasion) work flexibly too!
