Heidi Whitney

Heidi works at the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) and is Deputy Director for System Leadership. The NCETM is funded by the Department for Education and was set up in 2006. It supports the ongoing professional development of all those who teach maths, particularly through the coordination of the Maths Hubs Programme, and with teaching for mastery as an underpinning principle.

Over half the schools in England are working with their local Maths Hub in 2022/23. Heidi is at the heart of this activity, and supports maths system leaders, especially within Maths Hubs. She also works with national and regional partners to mobilise maths leadership for the benefit of the whole system.

Previously, Heidi taught and led secondary maths before becoming a maths advisor for a local authority. In addition, she has provided leadership support and challenge to schools in complex situations in her role as a principal education advisor.
